To say it is exciting is such an understatement. Years of effort, millions of dollars and so much planning are materializing before our eyes. Even so, the real work is just about to begin. With this shift comes new attention to processes, procedures and policies that will form the basis for our future success. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to introduce our new Quality Assurance department and can’t wait to get started working with Raphael and Farkhanda. Optimi Health Requests Final Inspection for Dealer’s License

Optimi Health Requests Final Inspection for Dealer’s License

VANCOUVER, BC (December 7, 2021) — Optimi Health Corp. (CSE: OPTI) (OTCQB: OPTHF) (FRA: 8BN) (“Optimi” or the “Company”), developers of a vertically integrated mushroom brand targeting functional as well as novel psychedelic compounds focused on the health and wellness sector, is pleased to announce it has substantially completed construction on its proposed Dealer’s License facility in Princeton, British Columbia and called for final site inspection.

The Optimi team has relentlessly endeavored to build world-class GMP capable facilities from the ground up. Since December of 2020, the Company has been heavily invested in completing its state-of-the-art facilities in full compliance with Health Canada’s Directive on Physical Security Requirements for Controlled Substances. As noted in the recently filed annual financials, as of September 30, 2021, $8,586,465 CAD of expenditures was incurred in connection with the construction of these facilities. Following on the Company’s facility update September 14, 2021, the schedule 8 security protocol is commissioned, Argus environmental control system is being installed, curbs and blacktop poured, interior clean walls are erect, HVAC units are mounted, and ancillary cultivation equipment has arrived on site.

Concurrent to the finalization of the dealer’s license submission the Company has now presented its analytical laboratory license for consideration and review. Optimi believes a healthy domestic regulatory environment is a critical and necessary driver of the rigorous safety and security regulations for licensed producers and builds confidence in local production quality and capacity. By adhering to Health Canada guidelines in the development of facilities and practices, Optimi believes it is positioned to exceed initial internal expectations for product excellence and delivery.

“Regulations are critical and necessary for building product safety and efficacy,” notes Company CSO Justin Kirkland. “With the tools we now have available, we are highly confident in our ability to isolate high purity natural psilocybin from our own mushroom harvest. We are looking forward to working with Health Canada, and other global regulatory agencies in order to deliver the finest all-natural products wherever possible.”

The Company has recently completed the purchase of research and development as well as analytical instrumentation which is poised to dramatically ramp up in-house productivity. Upon final approval by the onsite quality assurance team, Optimi will be able to provide assays to include potency testing by high-performance liquid chromatography including a diode array detector that allows for measuring multiple substance at multiple wavelengths (or components) simultaneously. Additional study capability includes potency, stability and identity testing utilizing thin layer chromatography, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The laboratory now provides an advanced ability to test for heavy metals and elemental impurities in compliance with guidelines put forth by the FDA, USP and ICH organizations to protect patients from the risks associated with heavy metal contaminants.

Michael Kydd, regulatory consultant to Optimi states, “The Company is clearly focused on respecting the regulatory process and by so doing, is positioning itself as an undisputed global supply leader through the development of one of Canada’s highest-quality GMP-capable facilities. The entire team looks forward to building strong relationships within national and international governments as the industry matures. In my opinion collaboration and communication define excellence, and the work we undertake today with Health Canada positions us to propel Optimi as an industry leader in standards and excellence around the world.”

Optimi Health CEO Bill Ciprick concludes, “I’m extremely proud of our recent and ongoing achievements. The senior leadership team has a strong history of operational and facility management in the cultivation of GMP-certified health products. That experience took time to build, and it now places Optimi Health in contention as a potential North American leader in the production of functional and medicinal mushrooms. Our common outlook is predicated on working together to optimize human development and fundamentally improve the physical, spiritual, and mental well-being of those impacted by serious mental health problems. It is potentially a massive sector, and with all that is going on around the world today, the need for improved health and wellness solutions has never been greater. Once again, our heartfelt thanks for the continued assistance of all our supporters as we grow this exciting and timely enterprise.”

Optimi Health Appoints Principal Investigator for Clinical Dosing Study

Optimi Health Appoints Principal Investigator for Clinical Dosing Study

VANCOUVER, BC (October 19, 2021) — Optimi Health Corp. (CSE: OPTI) (OTCQB: OPTHF) (FRA: 8BN) (“Optimi” or the “Company”), developers of a vertically integrated mushroom brand targeting functional as well as novel psychedelic compounds focused on the health and wellness sector, is pleased to announce the appointment of Valerie H. Taylor, MD, PhD as principal investigator on behalf of the University of Calgary for the proposed phase I psilocybin clinical dosing study.

Dr. Valerie Taylor is a clinician scientist researching new treatments for those suffering from mental illness through the lens of precision medicine. Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, she was recruited from the University of Toronto to lead the Psychiatry Department at the University of Calgary in 2018 with a mandate focused on innovation, access, and efficiency. Professor Taylor’s research activities are focused broadly on the area of the brain body interface utilizing translational research examining how novel compounds impact psychiatric & illness conditions. She currently sits as Chair of the University of Calgary’s Department of Psychiatry, Board Chair of the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education, and as a Full Member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.

In response to the appointment, Dr. Taylor notes, “This is a wonderful opportunity to advance the body of knowledge regarding psilocin and psilocybin’s potential in the mental health field. The Optimi team is clearly focused on achieving specific quantifiable results, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help ensure the study proceeds efficiently.”

A Principal Investigator (PI) is the physician who leads the conduct of a clinical trial at a study site. Responsibilities include ensuring the study is run in accordance with national regulatory agency requirements and “Good Clinical Practice” (GCP). Compliance with GCP provides assurance that the rights, safety, and well-being of trial participants are protected, and that the results of the clinical trials are credible and accurate.

As a representative of the University, Dr. Taylor will be working under the auspices of a previously announced agreement (March 9, 2021) with the IMPACT Clinical Trial Accelerator Program housed within Alberta’s Life Sciences Innovation Hub at the University of Calgary. The program works to design, support, execute, and report on the clinical trial process in conjunction with a Principal Investigator. IMPACT will provide expert clinical support towards commercializing proposed psilocybin-based formulations through the conduct of clinical trials and expert assistance towards securing regulatory approval.

Clinical studies require patients, and the PI can provide patients the possibility of participating in the study to assist in evaluating the efficacy and safety of these investigational treatments. To this end, IMPACT and Dr. Taylor have introduced the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (‘HBI’) (https://hbi.ucalgary.ca/) to participate in the trial process. HBI membership includes researchers from across 9 faculties at UCalgary’s various departments and institutes, many of whom may provide access to a large pool of potential volunteer patient candidates suitable for phase I studies which offers a procedural launchpad towards larger phase II and III studies.

Optimi Health CEO Bill Ciprick states, “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Taylor to IMPACT’s investigative team and look forward to working with her in the coming months. I’m also very pleased to advise that pursuant to our advisory announcement of June 15, 2021, our formal dosing study trial application to Health Canada is on-track for submission in Q4 and truly paves the way towards our ability to unlock the long-term importance of psilocybin as a means of treating unmet health conditions and commensurate future shareholder value.”

Optimi Health Natural Psilocybin Extraction Breakthrough Submitted for Provisional Patent Application

Optimi Health Natural Psilocybin Extraction Breakthrough Submitted for Provisional Patent Application

Company utilizes green chemistry to stabilize natural product with higher yields

VANCOUVER, BC  (October 5, 2021) — Optimi Health Corp. (CSE: OPTI) (OTCQB: OPTHF) (FRA: 8BN) (“Optimi” or the “Company”), developers of a vertically integrated functional mushroom brand focused on the health and wellness sector, is pleased to advise of a recent patent filing pertaining to a breakthrough process that facilitates the extraction of the natural products Psilocybin and Psilocin from mushrooms at higher yields than previously possible.

The instability of Psilocybin and Psilocin has historically been a difficult problem to solve. Compared to the total alkaloid content believed to be in mushrooms, analytical chemistry studies have shown a 3-fold decrease in the total alkaloid content when the alkaloids are extracted from mushrooms that have been subjected to dehydration. Optimi has discovered a novel, high yielding extraction technique by combining multiple process steps that collectively increase the total yield of alkaloids retrieved from the mushrooms.

Many companies in the sector frequently use synthetic Psilocybin due to the instability of Psilocin which has been shown to degrade due to its phenolic hydroxy group. Optimi’s unique extraction technique not only increases overall alkaloid yield, but also protects the active alkaloids from degradation. Optimi Health Chief Scientific Officer, Justin Kirkland notes, “I find the compounds produced by these mushrooms as quite precious and am delighted to have developed a procedure that maintains their integrity.”

This innovative molecular protection process is believed to increase the bioavailability and permeability of the active components of the mushroom. In keeping with Optimi Health’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, the proprietary process protected in the patent filing extensively utilizes green chemistry. Additionally, the process aids in lowering the cost of the final drug product for the patient as well as creating improved manufacturing efficiencies and improved safety characteristics related to farm operations.

Optimi Health CEO Bill Ciprick states, “Today’s announcement reflects our determination to advance the innovation of all-natural mushroom science. We’ve achieved a singular achievement which will ultimately enable future patients the ability to select a superior, natural solution for their needs. The fact our process is both cost-effective and offers higher yields is, of course, a potentially significant commercial factor for us. We are looking forward to implementing these improved procedures as the construction of our mushroom farm facilities nears completion and are excited to continue to develop our inhouse IP portfolio to bring added value to our venture and ultimately to our shareholders.”

On Behalf of the Board of Directors,

Bill Ciprick
Chief Executive Officer

More psilocybin please!

Optimi Health Natural Psilocybin Extraction Breakthrough Submitted for Provisional Patent Application

This new extraction method could yield more psilocybin from a single mushroom than previously possible.

Natural psilocybin extraction can have low and unstable yields, which is why many companies opt for synthetic versions. When mushrooms are dehydrated, the total psilocybin/psilocin content extracted  is three times lower than the total amount believed to be in the mushroom.

Optimi Health (OPTI) developed an extraction technique that not only increases the yield of natural psilocybin, but also protects the compounds from degeneration while reducing the cost of the final drug. On Tuesday, the company announced that it filed a provisional patent application to protect the process.

Optimi Health Updates Build-out of Mushroom Production and Research Facility

Optimi Health Updates Build-out of Mushroom Production and Research Facility

VANCOUVER, BC (GLOBE NEWSWIRE – September 14, 2021) — Optimi Health Corp. (CSE: OPTI) (OTCQB: OPTHF) (FRA: 8BN) (“Optimi” or the “Company”), developers of a vertically integrated functional mushroom brand focused on the health and wellness sector, is pleased to offer an activity update at its 20,000 sq. ft. production and research facility in Princeton, British Columbia.

Optimi continues to advance towards final build-out of its two adjacent 10,000 square foot facilities which originally began construction in August of 2020. Current estimates place the project as between three to four weeks behind schedule. When measured against the backdrop of the ongoing global health crisis, a delay of this nature is considered acceptable and Optimi thanks all concerned for their ongoing and relentless efforts to manage supply chain and related issues efficiently and effectively to expedite overall progress.

Of particular importance, notification was recently received regarding Optimi’s application for a Controlled Substance Dealers License which specifically referenced the facility details for both proposed Security Level 8 and grow room installations. The review indicated the proposed security environs may meet the requirements of the Health Canada Directive on Physical Security Requirements for Controlled Substances and Drugs Containing Cannabis (the “Directive”) if built as proposed. The notification officially advised Optimi it may begin construction of these secure elements of the facility and further requested notification upon completion in order to arrange for an inspection.

Regarding ongoing activities, building 261’s facility-specific structural, electrical, ventilation and irrigation systems have either been roughed in or completed to key demarcation points. Secondary site electrical is nearing completion and external paving, road access and security fencing are scheduled with some materials already pre-staged. Remaining procurement tasks include a millwork ITT and direct purchase of specialty items such as washroom accessories, escape ladders, signage, lockers, washroom partitions and fire extinguishers (see figures 1-5).

Next door at Building 269, framing is complete except for a few small areas relevant to the grinding and extractions rooms. Electrical rough-in is largely complete and the mechanical infrastructure install continues daily. Most of the balance of required equipment for both buildings will be on-site over the next month including all the electrical distribution equipment and ancillary mechanical. Optimi has been advised that most of the specialized security fencing materials have now arrived and installation should complete in a few weeks. The contractor has completely installed the majority of the security fence and security components for the exterior of the site. The security integrator will be on site throughout September to ensure the system is complete and operating in accordance with the design in preparation of our Health Canada inspection.

The grid electrical provider has informed the team that secondary electrical infrastructure must be in place prior to delivery of the primary transformer to energize the site and have been informed that the requisite equipment will be largely in place by September 15. Delivery dates for tertiary transformers and distribution have been confirmed for September. Optimi’s team is currently meeting with the City of Princeton regarding roadcuts and connection of water and sanitary services.

In accordance with Health Canada protocols, now that Optimi has been advised to proceed with Security Level 8 construction, secure vault ceiling decking will be installed immediately in preparation for a planned concrete pour. Once completed, the facility will include a Region III, Level 8 product vault with a projected capacity to initially secure a licensed 50kg of Psilocybin with the ability, subject to future licensing, to easily scale up to a maximum allowable level 8 capacity of 1,250kg.

Optimi Health COO and Director, Bryan Safarik notes, “The pace of activity has been phenomenal with updates occurring daily. We are delighted how well everything is coming together, and the quality of work continues to be excellent. I look forward to delivering this project within a timeline and budget that’s not far from our original pre-Covid expectations, and under the extraordinary circumstances are very pleased with how diligently the entire team is working to get Canada’s first all-natural end-to-end mushroom facility ready for production. It’s shaping up to be a fabulous world-class facility we can all be justifiably proud of.”
